In the last years the importance of integrating environmental aspects into transport planning has grown significantly and is still growing. Important topics in the field of transport and the environment are the security of energy supply, climate change, air quality issues and changes that result from demographic developments. The problems under consideration are often very complex as the transport sector is closely interlinked to all other sectors of society. Moreover, many transport problems can only be solved by international cooperation. However, language problems are an important barrier for such cooperation. Different definitions exist even for very basic terms like the term of mobility. The Euroregion Elbe-Labe is aware of these problems and has funded the multi lingual publication "Fundamentals of Transport Ecology". This publication is written in close cooperation between Czech and German experts. It is a consistent and textbook-like material that can be read without any previous knowledge. The book is available in Czech, German and English.
