Study projects

Environmental effects of transportation

  • Air quality modelling: Modelling air quality in urban canyons: comparison of different models, e.g. Immis, OSPM, Immi. Application of one of the models for one or more street canyons. Comparison of simulated air pollutant concentrations with actual concentration measurements.

  • Non-exhaust particle emissions: Literature research to identify and discuss the different approaches and models to calculate non-exhaust particle emissions . Analyse the findings from measurements of non-exhaust particle emissions . Optional: choose a method to calculate particle emissions for one exemplary neighbourhood in Munich.

  • Transport modelling and air pollutant emissions

    • Analyse and discuss an emission model (not HBEFA 3.1) and link it to MATSim (Multi-agent transport simulation). (Java programming skills are helpful.)
    • Regression analysis: find a relationship between driving dynamics and the emission level to calculate emissions as a post processing step of MATSim (Multi-agent transport simulation).
  • Noise modelling: Modelling noise exposure with Soundplan for one exemplary neighbourhood in Munich.

  • Environmental effects and gender – is there any difference?

Analysis of data on travel, time use and transport modes

  • Statistical analysis of one survey (MID2008, Time budget survey 2001, SrV2008, Mobility panel) focusing on socio-demographics and spatial attributes with respect to car ownership, mode choice, trip frequency, travel demand and further mobility dimensions.

  • Quantitative analysis of mobility behavior in Munich – Who is travelling where and why?

  • This boots are made for walking – Analysis of walking as transport mode in Munich or another city region
