Welcome to the webpages of mobil.TUM.

mobil.TUM is the Research Centre Mobility and Transport at the Institute for Transportation at TU München. mobil.TUM is a group of sociologists, (environmental) engineers, economists and geographers. We teach and research about ecological, social and economical issues concerning sustainable mobility and sustainable transport development. In order for transport development to be considered sustainable it must meet the following requirements.

  • Ecological viability constraints must not be exceeded (ecological pillar).
  • Mobilities must be preserved and a minimum accessibility must be provided for all citizens (social pillar).
  • Within the ecological and social constraints scope remains for the search of sustainable solutions in the transport sector. Establishing functioning market mechanisms is a vital prerequisite for using the scope efficiently (economic pillar).

The questions linked with these goals can only be answered through a close cooperation of people specializing in different disciplines. The formation of such a cooperation is a central task of mobil.TUM.

mobil.TUM acts as an integrating element at the Institute for Transportation. It complements the engineering competences at the institute by ecological, social and economic aspects.

Beyond that mobil.TUM creates relationships across the boarders of the institute with other faculties at the TU München and with external partners. A central element in creating these cooperations is the maintenance and organisation of networks such as the Cosmobilities Network, EduNETund NECTAR.
